If you haven’t heard, mascara is dead. May it rest in peace. Just kidding. While the makeup essential isn’t going anywhere, it is being overshadowed by newer innovations and accoutrements such as false lashes and extensions. “Lash services, in general, are becoming so much more mainstream now—we’re continuing to see a large uptick,” says Courtney Buhler, founder and CEO of Sugarlash Pro, a platform that educates and certifies lash artists across the country.
While lash extensions have been the go-to for a minute now, there’s a newer lash service that’s definitely having a moment: the lash lift. Every time I open Instagram, another influencer is crediting a lift for their long, natural lashes, and accounts like Jasimanibeauty (which showcases lash lift transformations) have garnered a cultlike following in the beauty community.
What is a lash lift?
Despite its rising popularity, there seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding what exactly a lash lift is. In the simplest terms, a lash lift is a perm for your lashes that shapes them into the perfect eye-opening curl. It’s often paired with a lash tint to make lashes stand out even more. Buhler confirms she’s definitely noticed a growing demand for lifts and suspects women still want something on their lashes but don’t want too deal with the upkeep of extensions.
