What is a lash primer?

Lash primer is applied to the natural lashes and used before the application of semi-permanent eyelash extensions. It’s specifically formulated to prepare the surface of the natural lash before beginning the treatment, to provide an optimal PH level which aids the bond between the natural lash and lash extension.

This is achieved through the primer changing the surface of the natural lash so it’s rougher as the cuticle layer is open. This creates more grip for the artificial lash to attach itself to.

What is a lash accelerator?

Lash accelerators are used to speed up glue curing time without causing shock polymerization, resulting in a faster lash application and treatment.

Lash accelerators are applied to the strip of artificial lashes only, and work hand in hand with your adhesive. You can keep applying the accelerator to the lash strips frequently throughout the treatment (every 45 minutes – 1 hour).

Its purpose is to speed up the setting time between the natural lash and artificial lash and make the eyelash adhesive cure quicker, resulting in maximum coverage in your treatment times.

The most obvious advantage to using an accelerator is that it can change how your eyelash adhesive works.

For example, if there is a drop in humidity levels, adhesive curing time will extend – meaning your favourite glue could soon be your most frustrating glue!

However, a lash accelerator will rebalance the adhesive curing time, even in low humidity. This little life hack may make your accelerator your best friend through the winter months.

Eyelash accelerators can also speed up the drying time of your slower setting adhesives. For instance you may be doing express lashes and find your sensitive adhesive is setting too slow – by incorporating accelerator into your treatment you can speed this up.

The main differences between an eyelash primer and an eyelash accelerator are how they are used and what role they play in aiding the lash treatment. Remember, primers are only used on the natural lashes to prepare the surface, whereas accelerators are used only on the strip of artificial lashes to work alongside the glue.
